The Persian Leaps
Maybe Time Will Let Me Forget
From Machines For Living EP
Land Ski Records
Taken from the eagerly-awaited EP due in October, Maybe Time Will Let Me Forget is a tantalizing teaser for us to enjoy right away. The music is in fact a cover version, the original artists recorded it as their only official release. Persian Leaps member Drew Forsberg remembers his uncle, Jon Asher, who enjoyed time in a band with the world-famous folk musician Dan Fogelberg when they were young. The A-side from the 45rpm vinyl by The Coachmen, now a collector's item for sure, the 1967 release gets a shake rattle and roll with all the modern methodology the future has given us.
It begins with swaying guitar and a smooth and solid bass-line. Sunshine distortion wails within the chords that strum in a hippy-glow vibrancy. An ocean of lyrics begins to wash in on tidal energy. Harmonising section bridge the storyline with memorable hooks. The chorus repeats the title to the catchy chops of a surf-folk groove that foams at the edges with glee. Melodic bass is placed high in the mix in order to bring out an orchestral sense of bandmanship. For the middle 8, the music cuts to stick taps as the vocal line fills the void. The next 8 sees the melody rise once more as the boat appears from over the horizon.
