Welcome to Sound Read Six - Where new music comes to you.
Between Toronto and New York City, ON bring a brand new take on the rock music scene with their latest single Make Me. Released last week and now already making its way around the world, the track takes their influences such as PJ Harvey, Nirvana, and Sonic Youth to new realms of creative territory. With Steve Fall on the guitar, Dan Cornelius on the drums, and Lucy DiSanto rocking the bass and the microphone, members of Acid Test, Danko Jones, and Deliuss bring ON to life with a super-group style of experience and fandom that focusses on great music and memorable live events. Written when touring Mexico in the 90s, Make Me is resurrected for the studio with expert attention from Martin Bisi, who’s previously worked for Sonic Youth, Swans, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop and lots of other equally as prolific acts. I can’t make you listen to it, but I think you should.
A sneaky rise of amplitude brings an already fired up riff into earshot. A grunge style guitar chord progression rips against the snap of the snare drum as the music kicks into action. A rising vocal pushes the buttons as rhythmic and stylish riffs punch the air and stomp the floor with melody and energy. There is a heaviness to the mix as distortion crumbles the notes into one another like a biscuit topping, and rock drums keep the pulse raging as the verses revolve around the progressive spiral of upliftment. Fire and brimstone rumbles within this hard-hitting and feminine-fused nu-grunge that doesn’t care if you like it or not.
